Diwali is one of the most significant festivals in Hindu culture. It is literally known as the festival of lights. As the homes shine brightly with diyas, the atmosphere of praying fills the air with its fragrance and the floor becomes a holy canvas for Diwali designs, it is the best time to learn. Traditional and authentic rangolis are created with colored powders and grain. Nowadays, many people are making rangolis out of flowers which is creating a stunning effect. These floral rangolis are also called ‘pushpa rangolis’. The reason why they are so famous is because they are not very difficult to create.
Ancient Importance and Benefits
These flower based rangolis have been created since ancient times. Flowers carry such brightness and sweet smells that can make any place seem shinier. Even in modern times like 2025, these flowers do not have any chemicals or any fake colors. You can even compost used flowers afterwards. Flowers will not leave any stains on your floor so you easily clean them, no matter where you are designing your rangoli. Secondly, it creates an atmosphere of festivity. It is a flexible choice and you can use your creativity as per your will. For example, you can either choose a simple design or you can create symmetrical flowery patterns.
Materials
You will need different materials. Firstly, you require to choose flowers based on color, size and texture like marigolds, roses, chrysanthemums, jasmines, lilies, lotuses etc. You can choose a decorative plate as a base. You need chalk to outline your design before you start. It is not necessary but you can use candles to enhance the rangoli in the evening time. If you wish to highlight even further, you can put small brass idols or bells in the center of your rangoli. Moreover, you can add beads to get a sparkling effect!

Types of Rangoli Designs
You can create a classic circular rangoli by drawing continuous circles with chalks. Fill the innermost circle with red rose petals. Add a ring of marigold petals. You may alternatively use jasmine and green leaves for the outer rings. Place a diya in the center. This design would look the prettiest at the entrance of your house.
Some people also create diya shaped rangoli. You have to draw a diya on the floor with chalk. You have to use the red petals of roses as the flame of the diya. You should fill the diya bowl with yellow petals of sunflower or any other yellow flower. Besides, if you decorate the borders with green parts of a flower, it will enhance its beauty a lot. You can also increase its look by accenting with little tea candles.

If you are very religious, you may also create a Lotus mandala rangoli. Start with a lotus design where you draw petals that are radiating outwards. Yellow and white petals can fill spaces between the main petals.
If you are welcoming guests, you can create a heart shaped rangoli to show them how pleased you are to meet them. It is very minimalistic yet welcoming. All you have to do is make an outline of a heart which you may fill with red or pink petals.
If you are good at creating drawings, you can create a simple Ganesh outline free hand or if you are not confident you can use a stencil. Use white petals or rice with the outline. Fill your sections with rose or marigold or jasmine and your rangoli is ready!
In conclusion, this year, as we balance authenticity with old rituals, let us create ecologically friendly rangolis that look amazing and are great for the environment!
